PS Audio P5 Power Conditioner: The Next Generation Power Plant

In 1997 the world of high-end audio first learned about the amazing Power Plant regenerators and how important perfect AC is to better sound. Since then, almost 50,000 people all over the world currenly enjoy the benefits of PS Audio’s Power Plants. As gorgeous inside as they are on the outside, designed and built right here in the US at PS Audio’s Boulder facility, PS Audio is immensely proud of their new PerfectWave Power Plants.

Built in Boulder, CO
When PS Audio introduced their first power plant over fourteen years ago, they could not keep up with the demand for this revolutionary product. For the very first time, the quality of the power supply from the wall was taken out the equation. The name was perfectly fitting, as now you could have a compact power plant right in your listening room.

Now PS Audio has perfected their design in their new P5 and P10 PerfectWave Power Plants. Now fully designed and built in their Boulder, Colorado factory, the P5 and P10 are huge improvements over older designs. Plus, US production means tighter quality control as well as a boost to our economy. This is certainly a change in the right direction. And wait until you hear your system powered by the new P5 PerfectWave Power Plant!

The PerfectWave Power Plant – A Major Leap Forward
The P5 is the second most powerful Power Plant ever built (the new P10 is the most powerful) and one of the most remarkable components PS Audio’s ever made. Able to handle even wider voltage fluctuations than any Power Plant yet, up to 280 volts for our overseas models and up to 170 volts for our domestic pieces, the P5 will handle anything even the most unstable supply your utility can throw. PS Audio torture tested the P5 to ensure your A/V system performs its best regardless of line conditions.

Compared to the Power Plant Premier, PS Audio’s previous state-of-the-art, the P5 boasts a 200% increase in transformer power, double the energy storage and four times the number of output devices. This provides a stunning reduction in output impedance, which means the P5 delivers more power, faster and with greater stability to any load. In fact, the output impedance of the P5 is 100 times lower than any Power Plant ever built!

Unprecedented Control
Once your system is powered by a P5 Power Plant all you or you need to do is go to the web through any web enabled device, including a Blackberry or iPhone, and access the P5’s control panel if you wish. From the P5’s control panel any connected equipment can be rebooted, turned on or off, or have its status checked. It’s that simple.

The user interface is significantly expanded as well. In keeping with the rest of the PerfectWave series products PS Audio put a touch screen on the P5 to control all functions as well as provide critical evaluation of incoming and outgoing voltage. See what your power is doing with greater depth and accuracy than before, PS Audio has built in an oscilloscope to the touch screen, so you can really see how your AC is behaving.

P5 vs P10
In terms of circuitry, technological functions and coolness factor, the P5 and P10 are very similar. One major difference, the P5 is half the height of the P10 and weighs half as much allowing the P5 to fit in any rack. The P5 also uses forced induction for cooling keeping the temperature of the chassis and internal parts low, even when the system is pulling a ton of power. Overall, we think the P5 is an ingenious way of making the superior performance of the ground breaking P10 accessible to more customers.
